A Toronto coffee shop owner says “there’s a lot of buzz” about his business taking part Wednesday in celebrating the 16th anniversary of the TV show Gilmore Girls.
Four coffee shops in the GTA will be transformed into Luke’s Diner, a popular hot spot in the show.
On Wed, Oct. 5, from 7 a.m. to noon, Netflix is transforming 200 cafes and coffee shops across North America into the famous Luke’s Diner from Gilmore Girls. All locations will serve free coffee to the first 200-250 customers.
One of the Toronto cafés hosting this event is the Infuse Café. They have two locations, 354 Yonge St., near the CF Eaton Centre and at the Gerrard Square Mall in Leslieville.
Glen De Mel the owner of Infuse Café, says there’s a lot buzz around this event.
“We are expecting around 200–300 people to show up at our Yonge Street location but only about a hundred at our Gerrard Square one,” said De Mel. “The coffee cups have access to special prizes that Netflix won’t disclose to us. There has definitely been a lot of buzz around the revival and this event.”
Netflix is supplying every location with Luke’s Diner décor, T-shirts and branded aprons for purchase. The coffee will come in Luke’s Diner coffee cups with a “special surprise under their custom Gilmore Girls coffee sleeve,” several news outlets have reported.
While some Humber students were excited for the revival not everyone knew about the event.
Monica Radu, a 20-year-old fitness and health promotion student, said she’s been a fan of the show for as long as she could remember and didn’t know about the event.
“I had no idea about the event, it sounds so cool. I’ll definitely consider going,” said Radu. “I can’t wait for the revival. I really enjoyed the show and I wasn’t necessarily happy with how it ended, so I’d like to see how it continues.”
Other students have been excited for Luke’s Diner ever since Netflix made the announcement.
Tamara Rico, a 24-year-old baking and pastry arts student, said the event just adds even more excitement for the revival.
“I really want to go but it all depends on my classes,” said Rico. “I don’t know what I’m more excited for, the cool merchandise, the free coffee or the actual revival.”

The show, which will be broken into a four-part revival series, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, premieres on Netflix on Friday Nov. 25., at 12:01 A.M.
There are five locations throughout Canada that will become Luke’s Diner for a day.
Four of them will be in Toronto while the last one is in Vancouver.
The four coffee shops in the GTA that will be participating are the Infuse Café by Yonge Street and Gerrard Street and the one at Gerrard Square Mall in Leslieville, the Milano Espresso Bar by Adelaide Street and Spadina Avenue, and The Rolling Pin by Yonge St. and Lawrence Ave.
